My Review
 
Blackfin Sky is a gorgeously absorbing debut that has a lot of fabulous characters, hauntingly creepy scenes and an intriguing mystery. It also has lots of really interesting little quirks that make it truly memorable!
 
The thing that I loved the most were all those thrilling little moments and the mystery that cloaked everything. Nothing was ever certain and really you couldn't guess at anything either. The storyline is a complete journey of discovery and as a reader I crave that.
 
Main character Skylar, is a strange little thing, she has an intriguing air about her that makes you want to get to know her better. This storyline sees her turn up 3 months after her death....not being any the wiser that she had even died!
 
To get to the heart of the mystery, she needs to delve into the past...a past that is clouded in dangerous darkness. Unravelling the mystery proves to be a tricky business, but she has the help of some great friends and of course the Blood House.
 
The Blood House is Skylar's home, it creaks with life and rattles with answers. Skylar just needs to follow it's clues. I LOVE this house and would love to stop by for a visit. The town of Blackfin is also a quirky place, it has this small town tightening feeling of suffocation. It also seems to have a life of it's own and the residents could stumble upon the strangest of things without even batting an eyelid.
 
Blackfin Sky is an outstanding debut from Kat Ellis who has a real eye for detail. The subtle romance is a nice little addition and it seemed a natural and very beautiful thing. The world building is rich and the magical hints make it stand out from the crowd. I won't soon forget my Blackfin adventure and I would love more than anything to visit again.
